Abstract
MORPHOTECTONIC ARCHITECTURE OF THE JUNDIAÍ REGION, SOUTHEASTERN BRAZIL This paper shows the morphotectonic analysis of the Jundiaí region, in southeastern Brazil, specifically the northern border of the Japi mountain range and the adjacent area of lower elevation. The employed techniques include digitalization of maps and graphical computing. The use of graphical computing resources has proven to be a powerful tool on representing landscape features by terrain digital modeling, permitting the visualization of 3-D blocks with good definition and facilitating the analysis of morphological patterns and their relationship with the geologic structures. The inferences are substantiated with field data collection and data treatment with the conventional methods of structural analysis. The results show a close relation between the recognized geological structures and the residual fault escarps that control the morphological blocks. The control is also notable on the formation, deformation and preservation of Paleozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary cover. The hydrographic basin of the Jundiaí River is controlled by this structural arrangement, showing an important influence of neotectonics on the evolution of the Cenozoic landscape.
