Abstract

Review on various features of biomass fired cookstoves is presented in this paper, which include deign aspects, fuel properties, performance characteristics and environmental issues. Most of the cookstove designs reported in open literatures are based on the natural or forced draft systems, direct or gasifier combustion mechanisms, materials and portability. Results obtained by many researchers reveal that the forced draft systems with gasifier combustion technology provide better performance with reduced emission. Emission can also be minimized by optimizing the moisture content in the fuel. With further modifications in the design and materials, great improvements in efficiency and reduced emission are expected.
