Drinking coffee has become very popular with people worldwide, including an area at the foot of the West Hyang Mountains, precisely in Bermi Village, Krucil District, Probolinggo Regency. Coffee's existence has become the lifeblood of dynamic development at times, giving rise to changes or shifts in meaning in it. This study departs from an effort to analyze the symptoms of people who have habits related to the existence of the "coffee" symbol, which focuses on the nature of humans as relational beings over themselves and these symbols to be more critical, sensitive, active, and creative in interpreting the symbols that appear in them. As a result, these efforts resulted in reconstructing the embodiment of meaning as contained in the interpretation of the symbol "coffee" in its daily meaning. This study uses phenomenological qualitative methods to see the 'world view' of research subjects with an interpretative perspective a la Max Weber's'verstehen' related to'meaning' (Sinn). The results showed that there was a shift in the meaning of the habit of drinking coffee in the Bermi people in the following two ways: (1) There was a change in the meaning of "drinking coffee," which was a necessity to harmonize the community over the changes and differences in the times that occurred, as well as a form of surviving an activity, namely "drinking coffee"; (2) The shift in meaning occurs naturally over a long period (evolutive), so that the impact of the shift in meaning can go hand in hand with the existence of the Bermi Village social system and relatively does not cause system disharmony to date, even very anticipatory towards predictions of future developments Keyword: Meaning, Coffee, Tradition, Behavior, Daily Life, Lifestyle
