KARBON AYAK İZİNİN AZALTILMASINDA YEŞİL LİMAN UYGULAMASININ ROLÜ: MARPORT ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

One of the most important infrastructure components of maritime transport, which dominate the majority of international cargo, is ports. Due to activities carried out in coastal areas, ports are important businesses having important environmental effects both in land and sea side. The volume of world trade and cargo has recently increased, and investments related to number and capacity of ports has accelerated. The effects of port activities carried out in coastal areas, which are sensitive against environmental destruction and pollution has also increased. Besides legal regulations carried out with the aim of reducing environmental effects of port business in their areas, the adopted environmental management system is an important tool. In this context, Green Port Implementation carried out in Turkey by Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications provides an important support and encouragement. E-RTG project, which has been put into effect within the scope of port operations and selected as working area by Marport that has completed necessary studies for the implementation of Green Port, takes an important place in this project. Carbon footmark changes, which is one of the most important indicators used in determining sizes of environmental effects of business, has been calculated within ISO 14064 standards. A significant decrease has been observed in carbon emission with the beginning of utilization of E-RTG by Marport. In addition to this, in this study, place of total annual cost and return of investment made for carbon emission have been significantly revealed. As a result, proposals related to making Green Port implementations in Turkey more effective and reducing the carbon footmark have been brought forward.
