Abstract

Nowadays, a house has become a necessity for everyone. Most Malaysians put homeownership as one of their ultimate goals in life. Yet, homeownership is a rather complicated feat due to the many factors involved. Therefore, this study aims to determine the most significant factors to homeownership. The factors involved are financial assistance, housing performance, housing motivation, housing market and housing policy. Using a sample of 100 respondents, questionnaire surveys were distributed to obtain their feedbacks. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed in this study and the data was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistical Software. The data analysis revealed that financial assistance and housing policy significantly influence homeownership. The study results can be beneficial for policymakers and developers in gaining a more in-depth insight of consumer needs and the factors that motivate them to own a house in Malaysia.
