Abstract

Queueing theory in the past and still to-day, been used intensively forthe design and the analysis of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS's).The queueing approach, combines on the one hand important theoreticaldevelopments in queueing theory and network of queues and extensiveapplications to the performance analysis of information systems. Thepurpose of this paper is to survey the application of queues to themodelling of FMS's and to the management of such manufacturing systems, based on the stochastic environment presumed by networks of queues.
