Abstract

The use of medicinal plants as the main alternative to solve respiratory disorders is widespread in the Ammatoa Kajang community. However, the Ammatoa Kajang's knowledge, attitude, and practice of this medicinal plant use have not yet been revealed. This survey study used a purposive sampling method to determine the respondents. Data obtained through interviews involved 106 respondents grouped by gender and age. The data were analyzed statistically descriptive using SPSS. In general, the Ammatoa Kajang community has excellent knowledge about medicinal plants for respiratory disorders. Among the 119 respondents, women had a higher knowledge of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders than men, and older people were better than adolescents in terms of knowledge of the use of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders. In general, the Ammatoa Kajang community had a positive attitude towards the use of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders. Still, women showed more positive attitude than men and compared to teenagers, older people were more positive towards the use of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders. The Ammatoa Kajang community had good practices of using medicinal plants to treat respiratory disorders, but women were better than men, and older people were better than the adults and adolescents. The results suggest that the Ammatoa Kajang's KAP of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders is in the very good category. No significant difference was observed between men and women nor between older people and adolescents. Therefore, the younger generation needs to be educated and trained to preserve the Ammatoa Kajang's KAP of medicinal plants for respiratory disorders.
