Abstract
This study aims to quantify the losses that occur in the transportation of harvested grain between the property and the warehouse and to present the reality of the sector and its bottlenecks, mainly as a result of the Brazilian logistics problems. These, however, can be fixed if well planned investments are made by the agencies responsible for the area or through private partnerships. It is characterized as a case study, qualitative, exploratory and of sectional type. Data were collected in the cities of Sinop, Vera, Claudia and Santa Carmen - North Mato Grosso region in the harvesting period of the second season corn crop. This study aimed to test a methodology for calculating losses occurring in the transport of grains and to verify the potential main factors for the losses. We observed the need for action planning of activities in the field, as for instance, a requirement of use tarps on trucks, a planning for the crop duration to reduce the immediate need of accelerated flow of grain. This is possible by requiring that outsourced transportation companies be commited to cleaning of the trucks , use body trucks that are in perfect conditions and submit truck bodies to periodic checks . There is also the need to establish a speed limit to grain carriers, according to the road conditions as well as the need to develop an effective training program for drivers and operators. An estimate loss of 0.5% of the total load was verified.
