Abstract

E-learning is a dynamically changing process of learning and training in educational settings, corporate sectors and at individual or personal levels. Information communication technologies (ICT) enable support for distance learning, and the role of innovative technologies in learning tends to increase the level of knowledge and competencies of learners of different levels. However, disruption enabled by such technologies has severe impacts on learning outcomes of learners. This study presents a review of recent trends in technologies and provides a review of the recently published articles. The study also looks at common challenges, and highlights Cyberloafing as a major challenge to present online e-learning systems. The results of a survey conducted indicate that Cyberloafing is an increasing trend among learners. Therefore, the study presents possible recommendations to avoid Cyberloafing in educational settings and gives a perspective of future directions in the area of E-learning.
