Abstract

The article focuses on need of effective long-term conservation of migratory waterbirds with habitat conservation under the provisions of Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA). Topics discussed include Ramsar Convention currently promotes the conservation of waterbirds and the areas in which AEWA, multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and advantages and disadvantages of ecosystem-based and species-based treaties. It also mentions habitat loss and degradation currently present the most significant threats to biodiversity worldwide.
