Abstract
Growth, yield, and prospects for future yields of slash pine ( Pinus elliottii Engelm.) were increased by an initial commercial thinning of severely cankered and crowded trees to a residual density of 100 sq ft of basal area per acre. Considerable mortality occurred at a residual density of 125 sq ft, and space was not fully utilized at densities of 50 and 75 sq ft. Height growth was unrelated to residual density.
