Abstract
The general principles of operation of photoelectrochemical cells are briefly reviewed. Particular attention is dedicated to the semiconductor materials which are presently considered as the most suitable for assuring high conversion efficiency and long stability to pratical photoelectrochemical cells. © 1987 IUPAC
