Abstract

After six years teaching "Action art projects", we present an article that analyses this subject offered at the graduate level by the School of Fine Arts of the University of Vigo. The main objectives are delimiting the situation of the discipline in the Spanish academic context and in our own university, familiarizing our readers with the structure of our pedagogical practice and assessing the difficulties and opportunities of this teaching practice. Our starting hypothesis will try to confirm, to search and to describe the causes and consequences of the weak presence of performance art in the curricula of Spanish universities. Methodologically, we will be focus on a qualitative and quantitative analysis, paying attention to the opinions of the students and factoring in our own experience as teachers. Thus, we will first address the context of the subject in Spanish universities and the performance art typology which we present in our teaching practice. Subsequently, we will advance in the analysis of the discipline approaching no only the academic context that surrounds our teaching, but also our teaching methodology, the demand of the subject and the profile of our students.
