Abstract

In this paper, we propose a non-photorealistic rendering method for generating leopard-pattern-like images from photographic images by using singular value decomposition. Leopard patterns of the proposed method become dark in dark areas of photographic images, and bright in bright areas. Therefore, leopard-pattern-like images are easy to recall original photographic images. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, tests using the image of Lena are performed, and visual assessment of leopard-pattern-like images is conducted for changes in appearance as the parameter values of the proposed method are varied. As an additional test, the proposed method is applied to several photographic images besides the image of Lena.
