Abstract

Pharmacologic treatment, alone or combined with psychological treatment, remains the mainstay of management of major depression. Adverse effects often complicate the use of antidepressants, impairing a patient's quality of life and contributing to medication noncompliance. Pharmacists can play an important role in optimizing pharmacotherapy of depression and can significantly impact the overall management of this disease.
