Abstract
This paper pays tribute to some significant, and largely unheralded, achievements of predecessors of my recollection in the area of corrosion mitigation and materials durability. These range from early cathodic protection installations to underground pipe protection, surface coatings, building products and quantification of climatic impact on materials. The intention of the paper has not only been to document those achievements, but also to encourage others to record the successes in other fields of our industry in this 50th year of the Australasian Corrosion Association.
