Abstract

I. INTRODUCTION A. Background Theories concerning the etiology and pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) have changed from time to time, following the evolution of biomedicine. Thus, it is only to be expected that, during the current period of heavy progress in molecular genetics, MS should be widely looked upon as a genetically determined disorder. However, although there is irrefutable evidence that genetic factors do play a role in MS, it is much too early to tell whether the genetic perspective will provide us with information of relevance for the management of MS patients.
