Abstract

This article deals with the historical and methodological issues in the evolution of Russian musical identity. A book on Russian musical identity "Defining Russia Musically," by Richard Taruskin is mentioned. Various historians including Amy Nelson, Kiril Tomoff and Neil Edmunds has done research on archival material to find out the practicalities of composing and music-making in the Soviet Union.
