Abstract

Our contribution to the discipline of Information Science consists in an attempt to improve the management of multilingual information. Our purpose is to introduce signage as a new simple communication system. This study is based on preliminary work on the emergence of signage to allow access to information on some topic where there is need for international communication among users. We have studied the social usefulness of signposting and the translation of a syntagm into a "signagram" (the unit in signage) in an emergency situation. We propose to establish rules that would allow the construction of particular signagrams and their correspondence to previously extracted key phrases. © 2013 The Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science.
