Abstract
In this article the author discusses aspects of psychopharmacological treatment in adolescents with self-mutilatory behavior (SMB). It mentions various hypotheses which have been postulated in the initiation and maintenance of SMB which include neurotransmitter system, role of endogenous opioids among SMB patients. Also, serotonin which is responsible in modulating impulsivity, trait evident in SMB. Meanwhile, protocols which are useful in treating repeated SMB in adolescents are presented.
