Abstract

In this study, CNC laser processing performances of some native wood species grown in Turkey, which are frequently used in the manufacture of industrial products, were investigated. In line with the findings, suggestions were made for the industrial wood product manufacturing sector. In the study, 70% watt laser power and 5 mm/s laser cutting speed were applied to the experimental samples with a CNC laser working with a 130 watt carbon dioxide gas tube. A total of 6 different tree species, 3 types of deciduous trees and 3 types of coniferous trees, were used. The effects of laser cutting directions, density and anatomical structure perpendicular to the fibers, parallel to the fibers and transverse to the fibers on the laser processing performance of each wood species were investigated. As a result, the highest laser processing performance was obtained from laser cutting of wood materials with low density, summer wood participation rate in the annual ring and low cell wall thickness in the direction perpendicular to the fibers.
