Educare(tê): O Desporto como expressão de valores

Abstract

In the new millennium, we face a world of technological change with the globalization of markets and impersonal with the (increasing) speed of information. Sport seen from the perspective of education, have the possibility to record experiences that encompass the formation of man. This study aimed to reveal the principles of the arete (excellence) and paideia that are present in the discourse of athletes (soccer), and thus we took the opportunity to reflect on the sport to qualify as a pedagogical agent in promoting a culture in values. Study participants were soccer players, male (young: 13-18 years), from Sporting Clube of Braga. We used semi-structured interviews, content analysis and from the responses we constructed a text based on philosophical hermeneutics. The results indicated a high content of the values of arete and paideia.
