Negacionismo religioso: Bolsonaro e lideranças evangélicas na pandemia Covid-19

Abstract

Resumo: Este artigo visa investigar as conexões entre líderes pentecostais brasileiros e o governo de Bolsonaro no que concerne à gestão da pandemia Covid-19. Partimos do suposto de que algumas importantes lideranças religiosas - nomeadamente sujeitos que encarnam um tipo ideal de pastor, empresário e político - têm colaborado com o governo na gestão da pandemia por meio do negacionismo pandêmico. Argumentamos que o negacionismo é uma linguagem de poder que está fora do escopo da democracia e que se expressa publicamente em diferentes técnicas de negação da ciência - muitas vezes com justificativas religiosas - empregadas em diversos eventos durante a pandemia, com o objetivo de consolidar um projeto político comum.Abstract: This article aims to investigate the connections between Brazilian Pentecostal leaders and the Bolsonaro government regarding the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. We start with the assumption that some important religious leaders - formed of individuals who embody an ideal type of pastor, businessman, and politician - collaborate with the government in managing the pandemic through pandemic denial. We argue that denialism is a language of power that is outside the scope of democracy. It publicly expresses itself in different techniques of scientific denialism - many times with religious justifications - employed during various events during the pandemic, with the aim of consolidating a common political project.
