Abstract

The upper basalts are LREE-depleted oceanic tholeiites. Analyses by microprobe, XRF and NAA for 12 samples from the bottom of hole 543A show that the basalts are fresh with only minor alteration of olivine to celadonite, clays and chlorite. The most altered tholeiites at the top are enriched in alkalis. (Preceding abstracts)-K.A.R.
