Abstract

Demetrius Poliorketes was not only a skilled war strategist but was also very attentive to his self-representation: both as a Warlord according to Hellenistic ideology and as a Champion of freedom. In Athens and Delos, the Antigonid king tried to carry out his project, adapting to the pre-existing political and cultural context of these realities. The purpose of this contribution is to highlight some com-munication strategies developed by Demetrius, focusing in particular on the re-covery of ancient Athenian war memories and then observing how these have been reworked for the purposes of Antigonid propaganda.
