Abstract
During drilling in the Gulf of California, diagenetic carbonate rocks were recovered at seven out of eight sites. These are primarily dolomites which record 13C isotopic evidence of the incorporation of carbon derived from the decomposition of organic matter. The process of deep sea dolomitization carries implications for hydrocarbon migration, as well as an interpretation of the pesence of dolomite in other modern and ancient pelagic to hemipelagic sediment sequences.-from Authors
