Abstract

In this paper we propose the practical method to estimate the load-slip characteristics of the double shear bolted timber-to-timber joints. Assuming a bolt as a beam on the elastic foundation and using the Weighted Residual Method, the deflection curve of the bolt was derived as the useful polynomial. Then the slip stiffness of the joint was approximately conducted easier form than that of the precise solution. In addition, proportional limit load, yield load and secondary stiffness caused by the rope effect was conducted by taking advantage of obtaining the potential hinge position and its moment in closed form. Subsequently, the validity of our hypothesis was verified by a series of experiments.
