In this review we discuss the importance of early interviews in the Initial Clinical Approach (ICA) aiming to diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. We review conditioning factors arising from the patient and the interviewer. We discuss the role of interview technique and of the transition from ICA to different forms of psychotherapy.
