Abstract

This essay compares, through analysis of the letters and poems of Mário de Andrade and Carlos Drummond de Andrade, aspects of two generations of Brazilian Modernism. Themes as nationalism, individualism, otherness and conceptions about art reveal the continuites and ruptures between the two phases of Modernism in the country.
