This essay discusses the social disputes of meanings about masculinity in Brazilian sport, discussing contemporary issues that have tensioned the meanings of the masculine in this context. To support this discussion, a post-foundational critique of Raewyn Connell’s notion of hegemonic masculinity is carried out, based on the studies of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, and resorting to the post-structuralist perspectives by Jacques Derrida and Judith Butler, in addition to incorporating the decolonial criticism of the theories of the Global North, proposing the theoretical construct of queer/cuir/kuir masculinity to interpret meanings of the masculine in the contemporary context of Brazilian Sport.
