Abstract
Silver nanoparticles become one of the fields of science that are widely used in everyday life. Silver nanoparticles are also widely used in leather modifications to produce leather with superior quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of silver nanoparticle prepared with mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana Linn) and MTMS solution on antimicrobial activity, hydrophobicity, and mechanical properties of composite of pickle goat skin – silver nanoparticles. Characterization of silver nanoparticles by UV Vis and PSA. Based on the results of UV Vis characterization, nanoparticles were formed at a wavelength of 439.6 nm. Based on characterization by PSA, the diameter of silver nanoparticles was about 98.10 nm. The pickle goat skin after modification with nanoparticle in situ had good inhibition against E. coli and S. epidermidis. However, the goat skin before modification had good inhibition against C. albicans at the 24th hour measurement.
