When considering a qualification of the sociological aspects of the slumdwellers in relation to feeding, we may note that nutrition, in context of poverty, is not anymore a factor of sociability, but, on the opposite, of exclusion. The economic approach (financial constraint, accessibility) and the sociological one (fragmented families, unemployment, style of life) explain part of the diet of the slum-dwellers, and the strategies of survival they develop in relation to food. Moreover, the anthropological approach relates practices with habitus of class, cultural habits and corporal representations of the "poor", offering elements for the understanding of the malnutrition.
