The Modular-Transformational Approach modality of psychoanalytic psychotherapyis described as being characterized by: a) an understanding of the psychopathologybased on multiple motivational systems –attachment, narcissistic, sexual/sensual, selfpreservation, psychobiological regulation– each with their respective anxieties and defenses. A psychopathology that goes beyond diagnosis based on isolated categories, it describes thedifferent factors underlying subtypes of depressive, narcissistic, anorexia/bulimia, drugdependency or anxiety disorders, etc., and integrates modern relational psychology withinputs from cognitive psychology and neuroscience; b) regarding psychotherapy, it proposes specific forms of intervention in order to overcome the use of a single technique applied to all types of patients. In addition, it is an active technique, not only on the therapist’s side but also on the patient’s, and is adapted to the framework of the treatment: individual psychotherapy, family therapy or in institutions.
