Abstract

Hearing loss in children may provoke impairment of speech and language development leading to poor school achievement, and poor social and emotional development. Early identification of educationally significant hearing loss as the correct prescription of hearing aids should be a target of every paediatric ENT departments. The author presents a few basic concepts about this pathology and the developments occurred in the Hospital Maria Pia during the last decade in this area.
