Abstract

We show that the Beliaev damping of elementary excitations in a homogeneous Bose-Einstein condensate can undergo resonant enhancement by several orders of magnitude when the superfluid is interacting with a far-detuned radiation field of an optical resonator. The photonic tuning of the quasiparticle damping can be controlled by an external laser drive. © 2014 American Physical Society.
