Abstract

Many countries are shifting to polymer banknotes in place of paper banknotes in order to reduce counterfeits, cost of production, and increase self life of the banknotes. With similar reasons some countries have issued hybrid polymer banknotes also. The article analyzes the pro and cons of polymer banknotes in the light of data available from secondary sources. It may help policy and decision makers in many countries who are planning to switch either from paper note to polymer banknotes and are continuing with paper banknotes.
