Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Malnutrition is highly prevalent among end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) as they are at high risk of reduced body weight, depleted fat tissue storage, low muscle mass, low levels of serum albumin and other proteins. Malnutrition in HD patients is a predictor of poor survival rate. Information about the factors affecting nutritional status in HD patients is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the factors that affect the nutritional status in Indonesian ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis.METHODS: This is a multicenter cross sectional study that took place in four hemodialysis clinics in Jakarta from October to December 2016. Nutritional status was measured using Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) Questionnaire. Nutritional status of the patients were classified into normal nutrition, mild to moderately malnourished and severely malnourished. Clinical and laboratory characteristics of the patients were noted. Levels of depression and anxiety was measured using Patient Health (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) questionnaire respectively. Analysis for categorical variables was done using Chi-Square Test. Analysis to find the difference between groups was done using One-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis, depending on the distribution of the data.
