Abstract

In this paper a new approach to the problem of recognizing the preceding vehicle on highways is presented. The system is based on monocular vision. Since on highways the position of the preceding vehicle in the image varies slowly, its previous and current positions are compared using correlation. Such image processing produces a very clear output, which, at a higher level, allows a simple and fast recognition. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
