Abstract

Constant-breadth cam mechanisms are used in various machines that require positive drive (for example in sewing machines and motors). The conditions generated by these mechanisms, which must be met by the displacement function of the follower, can be determined by studying the eccentricity and the constant-breadth profiles of circular arcs. A segment of the complete cycle of these displacement functions can be freely designed, and then used to calculate the remaining segment. The designed segment should account for adequate continuity of the function throughout the cycle. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
