Abstract
A healthy environment is a basic prerequisite for preserving the health of people, animals and plants. Land, water, air are common natural resources that do not know state borders and represent the common concern of all humanity. That is why environmental pollution cannot be observed only at the local level or at the level of one country, but it is to be considered at regional and global level. In order to understand the potential dangers and the impact of environmental pollution on the living world, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the most environmental important pollutants and their sources. In the 21st century, humanity is facing increasing levels of pollution of the Earth and its components. The effects of pollution manifest in the reduction of biodiversity, climate change, changes in precipitation patterns, increasing deserts, rising sea levels and oceans due to the melting of glaciers and the emergence of new diseases that are difficult to cure. Programs for reducing contamination are based on reducing the production of polluting substances, applying good agricultural and good production practices, as well as applying efficient and sustainable methods for their removal.
