Abstract
Introduction: There is no clear standart way of repair for ventral hernias in the current literature. We have used Ventralex ST Hernia Patch (Bard Davol Inc) for umblical, paraumblical and trochar site hernia repairs. Materials and methods: Between January 2015 to July 2016 61 patients were operated.The patients having hernia dimentions>3 cm in diameter were not included to the study.The patients were divided into two groups as hernia diameter<2 cm having repair with small size Ventralex hernia patch (4.3 cm) and hernia diameter between 2 and 3 cm having repair with medium size (6.4 cm). All patients had open procedure for ventral hernia repair and the patchs were sutured with 2/0 prolene to the fascial edges as 2 and 3 cm laterally overlapping to all directions.We have examined the patients after one week and 4 weeks following the procedure and had followed later on by phone calls . Results: 29 male and 32 female patients, having umblical hernias (65%), paraumblical hernias (26%) and trochar site hernias (9%) were operated under general anesthesia in an avarage time of 35 min. 51 cases had small and 10 cases had medium Ventralex patch application. All patients were discharged from the hospital at the first postoperative day with oral analgesic. Only two (3.2%) patients has surgical site infection. Avarage follow up of the patients were 23 weeks. No recurrence was encountered. Conclusion: Umblical, paraumblical and trochar site hernias in a range of not more than 3 cm in diameter can be safetly repaired by Ventralex ST hernia patch. Its easy to be applicated, requires less hospitalization with low complication rate and having no recurrences at least in the earlier follow up period.
