Abstract
Synthesis of a new series of biologically active dyes containing the sulfa drug nucleus and its use in polyester silk screen printing were presented. Synthesis was performed via azo coupling with C and N Nucleophiles. Spectroscopic tools were used to characterize the synthesized azo derivatives. Also, testing of their printing properties, including fastness to washing, light, rubbing, perspiration, and sublimation were evaluated. The new dyes showed respectable fastness and good antibacterial resistance to the growth of certain species of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. These low-cost facile synthesized biologically active dyes could be used for sterilizing textiles.
