Abstract

A comprehensive and efficient Tamarind (Tamarindous indica) juice catalyzed one pot synthesis of benzopyranopyrimidines I (R = 2-hydroxyphenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl, etc.; X = O, S) in aqueous medium through condensation of 4-Hydroxycoumarin (10mmol), various substituted benzaldehydes RCHO (10mmol) and urea/thiourea (20mmol) just by grinding at ambient condition was reported in excellent yield of the product. This is a green chem. approach, which is need of the hour.
