Abstract

Plants are a major resource in terms of sustaining life and many human activities. Normally, plant survival depends on the continuation of the ecosystem in which the plants have developed. In Australia, unique floral abounds but in many areas, but it has been dramatically changed since the European settlement. In general, native plant tend to do best when the pre-European conditions are continued. Flora conservation is part of the protection of biodiversity, and roadsides contain significant part of the flora in Australia. Flora conservation also relates to inter- and intra-generational equity. Plants contribute to the economic development and provide amenity value such as aesthetics, landscape and noise attenuation.
