Abstract
Advances in the design of sewage treatment installations for small communities are described. An improved design of rotating biological contactors has been developed for Severn Trent Water at Cranfield University. The combination of rotating biological contactors with reed beds for effluent polishing is also discussed. Severn Trent recently installed its hundredth reed bed. Treatment mechanisms involved in these methods are outlined. (D.W.Taylor)
