Abstract

A brief review of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) with metal–dielectric nanostructures and results of its application for cultural heritage studies with paintings as the representative example are presented. Twenty microcrystalline inorganic pigments were successfully detected with 10–100-fold sensitivity enhancement using 1-μg samples.
