Abstract
We present a scheme for the management and control of clinical data in hospital environments, at a national level. This solution is based on a grid platform, composed of regional data centers, which the hospitals use for backing up their medical data. This grid stores a single medical record per patient and the associated medical images. The grid can be used not only as a data repository for clinical requirements, but also as a large data base of medical data for research purposes, provided the research datasets are generated under appropriate anonymity restrictions. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
