Abstract
This article presents a summary of an investigation of brasiguayos in the Paraguayan media. The methodological approach proceeds to a discourse analysis on the senses produced in journalistic matters and in its comments. Among the results found are five discursive formations identified— here we present the first, which we call “Brazilian subimperialism.” This formation is constituted by Brazil’s subimperialist project to subjugate Paraguay politically, ideologically, and culturally based on historical relations between Brazil and Paraguay. Linguistic, political, and economic aspects, especially with regard to land, permeate the discourse of journalist and reader to present brasiguayos as an extension of Brazil’s subimperialist project.
