Descreve-se a origem da medicina comunitária, a sua difusão e o surgimento de Programa de Integração Docente-Assistenciais - PIDA. Procura-se reconhecer os conceitos fundamentais que identificam a IDA como uma proposta de integração e serviço.The author describes the origin of community medicine, its difusion and the source of Teaching-Caring Integration Programs. Besides this, she points out the fundamental concepts that identify the Teaching-Caring Integration as an of teaching - service integration.
