Abstract
Purpose-The purpose of this study is to analyze the influencing factors on starting businesses for returned migrant workers, which from five perspectives:individual traits, political environment, economic environment, social and cultural environment, and technological environment. Design/methodology/approach-Based on the investigation data from 243 returned migrant workers from 13 counties in Zhejiang Province by applying classical GEM model, this paper focuses on influencing factors on starting businesses for returned migrant workers through empirical analysis based on the factor analysis method and structural equation model. Findings-The empirical results indicate that:First, personal traits, political environment, economic environment, social and cultural environment and technological environment have a positive influences on the entrepreneurial success probability of returned migrant workers, and the intensity in above is from strong to weak. Second, as for government’s preferential policies, particular support project, the level of local economic development, financial development level, traffic convenience, technological level, entrepreneurial training, medical security level and cultural norms, they have a significant positive impact on the entrepreneurial success probability of returned migrant workers, and it is significant at 1% level. Third, as for the personal traits, including innovation competence and control force, they have a significant positive impact on the entrepreneurial success probability of returned migrant workers, and it is significant at 1% level. Research limitations/implications-Based on the analysis of the influencing factors on starting businesses for returned migrant workers, which provides reference for the government to put forward special preferential policies and special support projects to support the entrepreneurship of returned migrant workers. Originality/value-This research makes a practical contribution for the entrepreneurship of returned migrant workers, providing a practical reference for the government to offer effective support policies and measures, thereby promoting the development of entrepreneurship skills to the returned migrant workers.
